Kino Scores U.S./Canadian Rights to Reichardt’s Acclaimed “Old Joy”

One of the most acclaimed U.S. independent films from the 2006 festival circuit so far, Kelly Reichardt’s “Old Joy,” has been acquired for U.S. and Canadian distribution by Kino International. The film, which debuted earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and later screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, the New Directors/New Films Series in New York and SXSW, stirred interest from niche distributors in the States, with Kino emerging as the buyer. Forward Entertainment is launching international sales at the Cannes market this week.

Best Actor Recipient at Awards Ceremony

German actor Juergen Vogel of Tribeca film “The Free Will” (Der Freie Wille) won the fest’s prize for best actor Saturday evening at the awards show capping the 5th Tribeca Film Festival. The awards event was held at the cavernous Bridge Chinese restaurant.

There’s a difference

“There are pedagogues, teachers, ballet masters, artistic directors and then, there are coaches,” Elena Tchernichova explains in perfect English, through a deep Russian accent. “We don’t teach, the dancers are already artists. We don’t change the choreography. We refine the interpretation, push the boundaries, assess the limits of an artist and give them support and confidence.”

As a coach myself (albeit for actors), I couldn’t agree with Ms. Tchernichova more.
